Have you ever felt that you’ve lost momentum in certain areas of your life? Whether it’s your fitness routine, your health, the way you think day to day, your studies, your spiritual life…..sometimes you feel like you are in a great routine….other times you feel like you’re all over the place (I’m not sure if you face that at all…maybe I’m the only one ☺)
I realize that the sooner you’re able to get yourself back on track, the faster things start changing for the positive. The challenge to that is, well….getting yourself back on track! A great example for me lately is – I like to get up early to start my day by being quiet. I like to clear my head by praying, reading the Bible or reading something inspirational, etc…and I enjoy doing that in the morning. However, lately I find that I’ve been off track with my routine. My snooze button has been overworked all too often in the last couple of weeks. The ironic thing is the days I sleep in longer, typically are the days I have a tendency to feel more tired…. go figure!
For me, a huge part of getting back on track is being accountable. I have trusted people in my life that help me to find ways to get back to my routine. That accountability process is critical to my success (Believe me….I’ve never been a big ‘routine’ guy….however I know I accomplish a whole lot more when I have goals and a routine to accomplish those goals) Without accountability you could spend months or even years off purpose, which is a huge waste of anyone’s potential!
So my challenge to you:
Is there an area of your life that you need to get back on track?
Let me encourage you to consider the following strategy. (I’m following this myself)
- Forget about yesterday
There is no sense dwelling on what you did or didn’t do yesterday. Today is a new day – get yourself back on track today
- Make a short term goal
Focus on getting back to routine over the next 2 weeks. This is a great time of year to refocus a goal. Easter is 2 weeks away it is a great time to celebrate an accomplished goal!
- Get accountable
Find someone you trust to keep you accountable with getting back on track. Write down your goals….give it to them so they may be able to hold you to it.
- Celebrate – but be quick to refocus!
Did you hit your short term goal? Yes? – then take time to celebrate! Buy yourself something small as a reward, get a massage, go out for dinner, etc…..whatever it is for you that is a small celebration. As a part of celebration, make sure you refocus and set a new goal to avoid any
potential relapse!
I would love to know what your goals are. Let me know – we would love to encourage and celebrate with you as you reach them!
